Top Five Terrace House Moments

Terrace House: Tokyo 2019-2020 premieres on Netflix in ONE week. That’s seven days, 168 hours, 10,080 minutes or 604,800 seconds, but who’s counting? I might be just a little bit excited because it’s been a hot minute since the last series ended. To make this final stretch go a little faster, here are my top five Terrace House moments (from the seasons on Netflix). Beware of spoilers if you haven’t seen them.
5. The Bisexual Bath, Opening New Doors Part 5: Ep. 37
The Opening New Doors season marked many firsts for the season, including the first queer character, Shunsuke. While he didn’t stay in the house long, he definitely made an impact. Throughout his episodes, he expresses that he’s questioning his sexuality and wants to figure it out. He quickly develops a crush on fellow housemate, Sota, and asks him out on a date. They have a nice day out, but Sota ends up gently rejecting him. Shunsuke still considers his time in the house a success, because he was able to have romantic feelings for a man and therefore confirm his bisexuality. The episode ends with a pretttty awkward three-man bath that will go down in Terrace House history. The two guys ask Shunsuke how it is bathing with two men being bisexual and he simply says, “Uhhh the same as usual ... It’s kind of hot.” Whether he’s talking about the boys or the bathwater, we’ll never know.

4. The Missing Mustache, Opening New Doors Part 2: Ep. 14
Taka suffered from unrequited love during most of his time in the house. His first crush was ruthless, one-line queen Ami. She offhandedly comments that if he was younger, she might actually like him. Taka takes this to mean that maybe if he looks younger, he can peak her interest. He makes the bold decision to shave his mustache as a birthday present for Ami, which only ends in what can best be described as a cringefest.

3. The Coward Omurice, Boys and Girls in the City Part 1 Ep. 14
Minori and Uchi had quite the journey on Boys and Girls in the City. They were at the center of two major moments. In this instance, Minori expresses her frustration with Uchi for not taking the next step in their relationship by making him omurice with a message written on top. Another housemate suggests hearts, but Minori has something more passive aggressive in mind. She writes "coward" and leaves it on the table for him to find. The best part? Uchi just laughs and eats the meal. I guess it all worked out though because they share a kiss by the end of the episode.

2. The Skate-o Date-o, Opening New Doors Part 2 Ep. 11
The best part of Opening New Doors is the relationship between Tsubasa and Shion. This episode in particular was too cute to handle. The two go on an ice skating date where hockey player Tsubasa has the upper-hand. Shion is like a fawn trying to keep his balance, and Tsubasa helping him is just about the sweetest thing imaginable.

1. The Meat Crime, Boys and Girls in the City Part 2 Ep. 22
Minori and Uchi are back in the spotlight again in this two-part drama. Long story short, Minori cooked some meat Uchi had received as a gift while he was gone. It sounds like a simple situation, but it turned into the most dramatic moment the show has seen so far. Uchi ends up crying and won’t come out of his room. It takes just about every member of the house and Minori’s sister talking to him to finally get him out of his room. In the end, Uchi decides that shared living maybe isn’t for him.

Those were my most memorable Terrace House moments. I can’t wait to see what the new season will bring. Check back here for (maybe) episodic recaps of the new season.
