Dear friends, family and internet strangers,
This past year was pretty rough for the world, but as it comes to an end, I find myself reflecting on everything that made it bearable.
The year started just like any other, with the harsh January weather forcing me to binge my life away. I got addicted to Brooklyn Nine-Nine and The Magicians, which really improved my well-being.
As February approached, so did a new obsession, the winter Olympics. I became enamored with figure skating, and for two short weeks all I could talk about was whether Scott Moir and Tessa Virtue would win another gold for Canada (and more importantly whether or not they are secretly dating). I also laugh, cried and cheered for Adam Ripon, Evgenia Medvedeva and Mirai Nagasu. It was an emotional time for us all.

It was hard to imagine my life without it once it was over, but I quickly found love again in drag superstar, Trixie Mattel. Her second album came out and she won RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 3. I even managed to see her perform in Milwaukee, which was just as great as I had hoped.
Summer came and went, as it should. I mostly just read a bunch and hoped for the sweating to stop. In August, I entertained myself with the World Cup (I love world sports!) and succeeded in writing a poem every day on Instagram. It was a challenging way to stretch my creativity and get through my least favorite month.

With September brought my biggest obsession of 2018, BTS. A friend of mine convinced me to get tickets to their concert earlier in the year, and with it quickly approaching, I thought I should get somewhat familiar with them. The entire month was just a countdown to the concert in Chicago, and when that day came, it was by far the best day of the entire year. It was everything I could have wished for and more. After that, BTS was still pretty much all I could think about the remainder of the year. I am branching out to other K-pop, but they will always be my first and my favorite.
It was a trying year in many ways, but it’s nice to look back and see that some truly wonderful things happened. I’m excited and a little nervous about what 2019 will bring, but one thing is for sure, it will be full of random obsessions and a lot more writing. See you there!
