A Year Later

It’s been a year since I last checked in and a lot of things have changed.
I started a new job Nov. 4, 2019 and with the craziness of everything I lost all motivation to write for my personal projects, and then things just got crazier. I kept thinking, I’ll start writing again eventually, but it just never happened. I hit the ground running in my new position, and felt like I was writing nonstop there, and then when COVID-19 hit and the bad headlines kept coming, all I wanted to do (and still do) was to watch TV, watch BTS videos, read and turn my brain off. Here are some of the things that I’ve found a lot of comfort in this past year.
BTS, duh!
One thing that definitely hasn’t changed is my obsession with BTS. I’m still as obsessed as ever and I’m so thankful that they’ve continued to produce content despite no longer being able to perform in front of fans. I’m so excited for their new album to come out Nov. 20.
Netflix!
Binging shows also continues to be a huge comfort. Some of my recent favorites have been: Never Have I Ever, Teenager Bounty Hunters, Evil and Dark. The first two are perfect if you want some fun teen dramas and the second two are perfect spooky season choices.
Books!
I’ve really been missing libraries ever since the lockdown started. My library does do pick-ups, but it’s a major bummer not to just be able to walk around and browse for new books. Even worse, I moved over the summer and now have a new library that I can’t even explore yet. Luckily most libraries have pretty great online/ebook options, which have been saving me. Some of my recent favorites have been The Arc of a Scythe Trilogy by Neal Shusterman and Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall.
TikTok!
Wow, TikTok. This has been the biggest time suck/mind numbing form of entertainment I’ve found. That makes it sound sorta bad, but it isn’t! It’s just a really nice break and the creativity there is just insane. I really admire the people that make TikTok videos for all of us to enjoy. I’m a huge internet fan and TikTok just combines all the best parts of it: memes, short form video, creative people, jokes. I can’t speak highly enough of it. My favorite accounts lately are:
Whelp just wasted another 20 minutes looking those up. But seriously send me your Toks. I’m obsessed.
Animal Crossing
Yeah, I’m probably the only person still playing this game every single day, but man it still brings me joy. I honestly don’t really do much. I’m not much of an island designer, I just like logging in every day and basically doing chores. I have no explanation as to why this is appealing to me, but I just like it. If I’m hitting rocks and digging up fossils, I’m definitely not thinking about the dumpster fire that is our country.
I think that just about covers it. This blog in no way means I’ll start posting regularly, but maybe I will! Anyway, send me any recommendation you have for music, books, Switch games, apps, TV shows, TikToks, whatever. Hope you are all hanging in there too.
